Elite of the ruling CPDM party from the North West Region have described former Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Simon Achidi Achu as the backbone to the political development of their region.

Together in one voice, the elite were at the residence of the fallen former Prime Minister to pay their last respects with his corpse set to arrive in Cameroon in the days ahead.

Even the showers that fell on the city of Yaounde on Saturday, June 26 did not hinder elite from all the seven divisions of the North West Region to gather at the Yaounde residence of the fallen PM.

The traditional dances from all the seven divisions were a symbol of the stature of the man who cut across all cleavages in the region and the nation at large.

This was evidenced in the tributes that followed with Prime Minister emeritus and Grand Chancellor of National Orders, Philemon Yang describing the Rt Hon. Achidi Achu as a father figure who paved the way for him during his first steps on the political scene.

Honourable Nji Fidelis had a similar testimony to share as he recounted the encouragements from the Rt Hon Achidi whenever he had a politicalsetback.

“He told me never to give up and to keep working and one day I will reap the rewards and that is just what happened when I finally succeeded to get into parliament. This could not have happened without his encouragements,” Hon. Nji Fidelis said.

To the avalanche of tributes that poured in on the day, the representative of the family, Jude Achu thanked the elite and the entire community for coming to moun with them at this difficult moment. He beckoned all to continue joining the family to pray for the repose of the soul of their father.

Saturday’s event paves the way for a busy week ahead with the mortal remains of the fallen PM set to arrive from the USA on Monday night through the Nsimalen International Airport. He will receive civil and parliamentary honours on Friday, July, 2 ahead of burial which takes place the next day in Santa.
