The movement of motorcycles in the Buea municipality had been banned till further notice, the Mayor of the city Patrick Ekema Esunge has said.

The Mayor passed the ban at the weekend through an official communiqué justifying his actions as a result of the growing insecurity in the area.

The mayor said the decision was take in consideration to “the high level of insecurity perpetrated mostly by motor-bike riders, the notorious manner in which motorbike riders facilitate the kidnappings and abduction of our denizens.”

The Mayor added that the ban concerns both commercial and and private motor-cycle riders and warned defaulters will be heavily sanctioned.

The decision comes after various kidnappings in Buea in the past months with the abductors using motorcyles to carry out their acts.
