Lawyers across the country are mobilizing to receive the mortal remains of the former President of the Cameroon Bar Association, Charles Tchakoute Patie who passed away on October 4 in France at the age of 57.

According to a communiqué signed by the Secretary General of the Cameroon Bar Council, Philippe Olivier Memong, the mortal remains of the Barrister Patie will arrive Cameroon via the Douala International Airport tomorrow at 5pm before being preserved at a local morgue.

A session of the Bar Council which will be opened to former Bar Presidents and former Presidents of the Bar General Assembly is expected to hold today in Douala to discuss on the association’s role in organising the funeral of the deceased.

The tentative date set aside for the funeral by the Bar is November 26-28 but the Acting Bar President Claire Atangana Bikouna has been tasked with obtaining authorisation from the Supreme Court for judicial honours for the deceased before the funeral programme can be confirmed.

Following the death of the Charles Tchakoute Patie, the Cameroon Bar Council immediately met in an extraordinary session and designated the eldest member Claire Atangana Bikouna as the Acting Bar President as provided for by the laws governing the legal profession. She will head the Cameroon Bar Association until the General Assembly is summoned for fresh elections.
