Four goalkeepers, nine defenders, seven midfielders and eight forwards will be defending the colours of Cameroon at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations which kicks off on January 9.
The final list of 28 was released on Wednesday, December 22 by the head coach of the Indomitable Lions, Antonio Conceçaio who has trimmed the squad from the initial 40 players preselected two weeks ago.
In goal, Toni Concecaio retained first choice goalkeeper Andre Onana alongside DevisEpassy, Omossola Simon and Jean EfalaKomguep. There was no room for Cotonsport’s Junior Narcisse Nlend who was dropped from the squad.
In defence, AmbroiseOyongoBitolo and Harold Moukoudi who were all injury doubts have both been included in the squad as well as Fai Collins. They all join stalwart Michael Ngadeu, as well as NojouTolo, Jerome Onguene, Ebosse Enzo, Jean Charles Castelletoand Olivier Mbaizo. The injured Jean Claude Billong, Galatasaray defender Boey Sacha, JoyskimDawa and DuplexeTchamba were all dropped from the squad.
In midfield, Toni Conceçaio kept faith with the players who have served him so well in the past months, dropping Arnaud Djoum from the fold.
Up front, the big news is the return of Russia-based forwardClinton Njiein an attack line that is led by regular names like skipper Vincent Aboubakar, Eric MaximeChoupoMoting, MoumiNgamaleu, Christian Bassogog, MoumiNgamaleu, TokoEkambi, Stephane Bahoken and MoumiNgamaleu.
Winning AFCON All That Matters
The head coach of the Indomitable Lions, Toni Conceçaio acknowledged the challenge that lies ahead of him is winning the Africa Cup of Nations and qualifying for the World Cup.
“We are aware the historic people of Cameroon will want us to do so (win the AFCON on home soil. That places the bar very high for us but we are convinced we will be able to achieve that,” Antonio Conceçaio said.
The Indomitable Lions are drawn in Graoup A alongside Burkina Faso, Ethiopia and Cape Verde.
