The Minister of Territorial Administration Paul Atanga Nji has slammed the Cameroon Renaissance Movement for calling on Cameroonians to boycott the February 9 twin elections.

Opening the first session of the bi-annual conference of Governors, Paul Atanga Nji said electoral boycott is clearly an anti-developmental practice, and its advocacy is anti-constitutional and anti-republican.

He took a thinly veiled jibe at Maurice Kamto and the Cameroon Renaissance Movement for boycotting the upcoming elections and frowned at their attempts to call on Cameroonians to boycott.

“Despite the wayward attitude of some political leaders who advocate boycott of the twin elections of February 9, 2020, the State respects their choice, because we are in a democratic society where people are free to choose whether participate or not to participate in an election,”Atanga Nji said.

He however warned any attempts to disrupt the upcoming elections will be met with a firm response from the state.

“What we can never accept or tolerate are statements like: ‘I will not participate in the elections and I will do everything possible to stop other Cameroonians from exercising their civic right.’

“That is when the State will display its might against whoever shall attempt to create disorder before, during and after the twin elections. Regardless of their social status, trouble makers shall be dealt with firmly and squarely in accordance with the laws of the Republic.
