Residents of some neighbourhoods in Yaounde, capital city of Cameroon who have been in darkness for a week now will be re-energized completely in six months to come, Eneo Cameroon SA has announced.

The announcement is contained in a press release published on August 10, 2019. According to the release, the complete repair of the BRGM electricity station that got burnt last week in the Melen neighbourhood will take three to six months.

“The actual reconstruction of the totally damaged substation will last between three to six months” part of the release reads.

The Management of Eneo SA nevertheless assures residents of Yaounde that a supply rotation plan that will help minimize the inconveniences is ongoing and will extend, while gradually decreasing, until the end of the month of August.

In a communique signed earlier by the Minister of Water and Energy Resources Gaston Eloundou Essomba, the recent power cuts have been attributed to a fire incident that broke out Wednesday August 7, 2019 at the BRGM substation in the Melen neighbourhood, putting part of Yaounde in total blackout
