The written part of the 2019 session of the General Certificate of Education, GCE officially started in across the national territory on Monday with over 100.000 thousand candidates taking part in the exams.

According to statistics from the Cameroon GCE Board, 110,543 candidates are taking part in this year’s session, a drop in 2018 which saw 130.000 candidates take part.

According to statistics from the GCE Board, 65,638 students are writing the GCE O’ Level, 30, 489 are sitting in for the Advance Level, for the general education.

On the other hand, 4,700 candidatees are sitting in for the GCE O’ Levels Technical and 3,621 in the GCE A’ Level Technical.

Sources at the Cameroon GCE Board say the cities of Yaounde and Douala are hosting the largest number of candidates this year.

This can be explained by the situation in the North West and South West regions which has disrupted schools for the past two years and forced several students to relocate to Douala and Yaounde for studies.

Students are braving the odds to sit in for the exams in the North West and South West regions despite the security situation.
