Officials of the seven councils of the Mfoundi Division, Centre region of Cameroon have been urged to integrate a more inclusive approach for service delivery in the drive for effective decentralisation.

During a three-day workshop organised by the PROMHANDICAM-ASSOCIATION Center Cameroon Cluster Programme and the Christian Blind Mission (CBM) Officials, the councils were empowered with the necessary tools needed for inclusive development in order to ensure the inclusion of disabled persons in their plans of action.

Opening the workshop in Yaounde last week, the Divisional Delegate of Social Affairs for Mfoundi Division, Adele Ebongue, said it is imperative for municipal authorities to master the inclusive development process because it falls in line with the decentralization process put in place by the Head of State.

“Persons living with disabilities are supposed to be taken into consideration when councils are drawing up their at all level in order to avoid stigmatising any group of persons in the society,”she said.

An objective that was reiterated by the Coordinator of the programme, Claude Francois Kamen hope  that the councils would be able to implement the lessons learnt from the training workshop in order to  include persons living with disabilities in their plan of actions.

“Our main aim for this program is to provide tools and skills for local development actions to plan and budget for disability in their development endeavors at local levels. We have a program we are supporting in the Centre region with our local partner PROMHANDICAM Association and this program defines a catchment area which is Mfoundi ”, Mr. Julius Fon, country director for CBM Camroon said.

For three days, the officials of the councils received new skills on how to make their services flexible and easily accessible to persons living with disabilities as well as craft development programs to empower them.
