The Director of Operations at the World Bank country office in Cameroon, Elizabeth Huybens has urged the Government to take necessary measures to accelerate World Bank-funded projects.

She made the call Wednesday May 8 in Yaounde during a working session with Cameroon’s Minister of Public Works Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi and other officials of the World Bank.

Elizabeth Huybens pointed out the necessity to speed-up with the World Bank-funded projects or else they will be stopped halfway when rains become intense.

They reviewed the level of works of the 52km Babadjou-Bamenda road, the 62km Maroua- Mora road and the Mora – Dabanga- Kousseri road.

Huybens and other officials of the World Bank expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far on the Maroua- Mora road. As concerns the other two projects, they noted that the pace at which works are being carried out is not the most appropriate and required one.

Mentioning financial and security issues as well as shortage of construction equipment as the reason behind the slow pace of works, Minister Nganou Djoumessi reassured the World Bank officials measures were on course to eliminate these obstacles, so as to shorten the execution period.
