The Governor of the West region, Awa Fonka Augustine has suspended the holding of funeral ceremonies in his area of command for a period of two months renewable.

According to a note signed by the regional authority Monday April 5, the decision to suspend funeral ceremonies has as objective to curb the spread of the deadly Coronavirus pandemic at a time when the country is witnessing a resurgence of the virus.

Funeral ceremonies in the region generally pool a great number of people from diverse regions and at times from foreign countries who come together to morn a loss one after he/she has been buried.

The gathering thus definitely violates the not more than 50 persons anti-COVID-19 barrier measure given by the Government to stop the spread of the pandemic.

In his note, Governor Awa Fonka clearly states that other crowded ceremonies, including marriage, concerts, burials to name but these ones will be subjected to the strict respect of anti-COVID-19 barrier measures especially that which restricts the number of people gathered to 50.

It’s worth mentionning that few hours after this note was released, a decree from the President of the Republic was published, according official funeral ceremonies to business mogul Pascal Monkam on April 10 in his native Bakassa, Upper Nkam Division in the West region.
