Former Dutch international Clarence Seedorf has been unveiled as the new coach of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.

The 42-year old was on unveiled in the early hours of Friday morning alongside his assistant and former team mate Patrick Kluivert at the conference room of the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education.

The pair who touched down in Cameroon on Thursday morning signed a four-year contract and have been tasked with winning the 2019 Afcon as well as qualifying for the 2021 edition with an eye on the 2022 World Cup.

“We want to start properly(with the team) and we are very happy to be part of (Cameroon’s) dream to work on football development and work on the team’s goals for the next tournament that we have next year,” Clarence Seedorf said after he was unveiled.

On his part, assistant coach Patrick Kluivert immediately set his sights on defending the Africa Cup of Nations title on home soil next year.

“I am very happy to be here … Cameroon are the defending champions of the Afcon and we want to win the trophy once again, we have a lot of potential and I think we can do it again. We know it will be very difficult but we hope to get to work very soon.

The pair will make their bow in the Lion’s dugout in September when Cameroon face Comoros Island away in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Though Cameroon have already qualified for the Afcon as hosts, the qualifiers will serve as preparations for the lions ahead of the tournament billed for June next year.
