Matriculation and Convocation ceremonies at the University of Buea have been cancelled this year in strict respect of the COVID-19 barrier measures, the Vice Chancellor of the institution Professor Horace Manga has said.

The Convocation ceremony of “The Plae To Be” was expected to hold in December but authorities of the institution have submitted themselves to instructions from hierarchy.

“The University (of Buea) guided by instructions from the Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, prohibiting university ceremonies in compliance with the Prime Minister’s decision against the mass gathering of persons has suspended the highly awaited Matriculation and Covocation ceremony,” the Vice Chancellor stated in a communiqué.

He stressed the decision did not hinge on the institution’s ability to respect barrier measures but was in response to the “firm instructions from hierarchy and our fair judgement to avoid events that would impact on the health of the community,” he added.
