The Anglophone General Conference, AGC has urged the government of Cameroon to resume dialogue with all separatist factions, both in jail and abroad.

Meetig in Douala, yesterday, August 19, the AGC led by His Emminence, Christian Cardinal Tumi said the resumption of peace talks could help end the violence in the two regions and safe lives of women and girls.

As a means to diffuse the tension in the two regions, the AGC also pleaded with government to release the detained separatist leaders in order to breed confidence on both sides.

At least a dozen civilians have been killed in the past weeks in the two rstive regions of Cameroon prompting widespread condemnation.

The Prime Minister, Head of government sent an envoy to Muyuka on Tuesday, August 18 to comfort the family of Comfort Tumassang brutally killed by armed men in the locality. Folowing Comfort’s death, at least seven civilians were killed in the locality of Mautu, few kilometres from Muyuka following a military raid, sources confirmed.

Comfort’s death came just a week after another young lady was brutally murdered in Bamenda. Government spokesman, Rene Emmanuel Sadi said she was murdered by separatists who suspected her of having links with the military.

The wave of violence has equally not spared teachers and humanitarian workers with at least two teachers killed in Bamenda last week, following on from the brutal murder of an aid worker in Batibo. Last month another aid worker was brutally killed in Lebialem while separatist fighters were accused of abductinng dozens of youth in the locality.

All these acts were seriously condemned by Cardinal Tumi’s AGC during yesterday’s meeting and advised the government to set up a credible commission on inquiry made up of religious organisations, civil society, community based organisations and the government.
