The South West Chiefs have told the Governor of the region, Bernard Okalia Bilai, that they will not march on May 20 as they civil administrator had requested.

In a communiqué signed by the President of the South West Chiefs’ Conference, HRM Mafany Njie Martin, the chiefs say it is against the tradition and native laws for them to march and will not be respecting the Governors orders.

The chiefs called on the population to remain calm and be positive as they accompany the state in all national events as they have always done.

This reply from the chiefs comes after the Governor of the South West region Bernard Okalia Bilai provoked an outrage last week as he ordered all chiefs in Buea to rally their subjects and march on May 20 or be dethroned.
