The 2019 edition of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Competition, STEM Prize 2019 has been officially launched.
The competition was launched yesterday at the headquarters of the Denis and Lenora Foretia Foundation in Yaounde during a press conference to present entry modalities.
Launching the competition yesterday, one of the STEM coordinators, Agathe Djomeghu said the organisation committee is working hard to ensure more candidates participate this year as the competition keeps growing in size.
What is the STEM Prize?
First launched in 2016 by the Denis and Lenora Foretia Foundation, the STEM prize is a competition aimed at encouraging young students between the ages of 13 and 21 to follow career paths in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

2018 STEM Prize for scientific innovation launched in Cameroon
Thus, young students in Cameroon and the Cemac sub region are expected to submit original projects that can help solve a problem in their communities. The students are expected to submit their projects in a group of five, composed of at least two girls
A jury composed of five independent members will examine the projects and retain the five best who will go for a training workshop at the Denis and Lenora Foretia Foundation before the winners will be announced in an award ceremony scheduled for November 30, 2019 in Yaounde.
The winner of this year’s competition will bag home a prize money of 1.5 million FCFA while the runners up go home with 1 million and 750.000FCFA respectively. Other individual prizes worth 1.750.000FCFA will equally be distributed.

-14 May 2019: Press Conference to announce the official launch of the STEM Prize
-15 May 2019: Opening of the STEM 2019 online portal for registration
-15 May 2019-27 September 2019: Communication campaign through press conference, online messages, distributing flyers to associations, students and targeted groups
-30 September 2019: Deadline for submission of projects
-01 October 2019- 04 October 2019: Compilation of the various projects
-7 October 2019-11 October 2019: Preselection of candidates
-14 October 2019 – 18 October 2019 : Selection of the best projects
-21 October 2019 – 25 October 2019 : Sending of invitations to the best teams
-28 October 2019- 1 November 2019 : Preparation for the award ceremony
-26 November 2019 : Arrival of the STEM 2019 finalists at the Foretia Foundation
-27 November 2019 -29 November 2019 : Three-day workshop with finalists at the Foretia Foundation
-30 November 2019: Award ceremony
