The need to create a society that protects the child will be highlighted today during at event to commemorate the Universal Children Day in Cameroon.

Aimed at sensitizing the population on the urgent need to build a world in which children are educated in safe environment, the event will take place today at Yaounde city hall. It will be presided over by Cameroon’s Social Affairs Minister Irene Nguele.

Universal Children’s Day is celebrated around the world on November 20 and the observance was established in the year 1954 to ‘promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children’s welfare’.

November 20 is also the day when the UN General Assembly adopted the declaration of the ‘Rights of the Child’ in 1959.

This year, the UNICEF has planned something special for children around the world.

The intergovernmental organisation is asking individuals, schools and corporates worldwide to ‘Go Blue’ this Universal Children’s Day to help build a world where every child goes to school and is safe from harm.
