Members of the National commission for the rehabilitation and socio economic re-integration of persons with disabilities yesterday met in Yaounde to discuss ways on how to integrate challenged persons.

In a working session chaired by the Minister of Social affairs Pauline Irene Nguene chairperson of the commission, they reflected on how to fight the social exclusion of persons with disabilities and include them in Cameroon’s development process.

During her speech, Pauline Irene Nguene said the amelioration of life conditions of persons with disabilities will pass through the inclusion of the disabled approach in all development programmes and projects.

As such, she proposed the elaboration of mechanisms that will help protect the rights of persons with disabilities as prescribed by the law.

According to the World Health Organisation, there are over 2 million people living with disabilities in Cameroon, and most have limited access to education, healthcare, employment, and even public transport and live in poverty as a result.
