Security forces have foiled a protest march in Douala scheduled by the regional Chairman of the Social Democratic Front, SDF.
Sources say the organiser Jean Michel Nintcheu was blocked and taken away by security forces around the “Douche Municipale” in Akwa Douala, as he attempted to defy a ban on the protests.
The few supporters who came out to follow Hon. Nintcheu were immediately dispersed by the security forces who immediately took over the place.
The first Vice President of the Social Democratic Front, Joshua Osih was reportedly blocked by security forces from accessing the scene but not arrested as initial reports had suggested.
A spokesperson for Joshua Osih told journalducameroun.com that the party’s Vice President was safe and sound and has not been harmed. He however cast doubts on the whereabouts of Hon. Nintcheu whom he said was taken away to an unknown destination.
Security has been on red alert in Douala since morning after local authorities banned a march planned by Hon. Nintcheu to protest against the decision to strip Cameroon off the rights to host the 2019 Afcon and the failure to punish those responsible for the fiasco.
