The Chairman of the Social Democratic Front Ni John Fru Ndi has been released after he was briefly kidnapped by suspected Ambazonia separatist fighters on Saturday in Kumbo.

Ni John Fru Ndi was kidnapped on Saturday morning at Wainama as he was leading a delegation to bury Honourable Joseph Banadzem in Kumbo  was briefly questioned before he was later released , sources said.

However, party sources have dismissed the notion the Chairman was kidnapped, rather saying it was a ‘misunderstanding’ between the Chairman and the armd meen which was immediately sorted out.

The Communications Officer of the SDF Denis Nkemlemo said the media had misrepresented facts on the events but fell short of debunking news the Chairman was briefly held by the armed men. He however said the Chairman is ‘fine’ and they have all arrived church with the corpse of the late Honourable Joseph Banadzem.

Before heading to Kumbo, a funeral mass in honour of the late SDF Member of Parliament was held this morning at the Ntarinkon residence of the Chairman in Bamenda officiated by Reverend Father Humphrey Tata.

Reports say John Fru Ndi vowed to lead a delegation to go burry Honourable Banadzem in his native Bui Division despite separatist threats.

Sources say separatist fighters in Bui Division had given permission for Honourable Banadzem to be burried in his native Bui in strict family intimacy and did not want “foreigners” trooping into the village.

Following the abduction of John Fru Ndi, party authorities in the Centre region had convened an emergency meeting later today in Yaounde.

Today’s incident comes exactly one week after his younger brother was abducted in Bafut and still remains in captivity pending the payment of a 6-million FCFA ransom demanded by the abductors

This is a developing story….
