Prof Lazare Kaptue, co-founder and Rector of the Famous Université des Montagnes institute and Mayor of the Demdeng Council in the Koung Khi Division, West region of Cameroon is no more.
Reports say the medic who was killed by social media few weeks ago finally died Monday April 12 in Yaounde aged 82 after suffering from illness.
He was the Co-Founder and Rector of Université des Montagnes, a private University in Bagangte, West region of Cameroon.
After a stay in Paris and London, Lazare Kaptue came back to Cameroon to work as Associate Professor of Haematology, Immunology and Blood Diseases in 1973.
During the Ordinary General Assembly of the National Order of Medical Doctors in Cameroon in 2019, he was recognized as an icon in the domain of medecine for his contributions in the development of science in Cameroon.
In the political domain, Prof Lazare Kaptue served as Mayor of the Demdeng Council in the Koung Khi Division, West region of Cameroon from 2002 till his demise.
From 2008 to 2020, he was the Secretary General of the United Cities and Council of Cameroon, UCCC.
In a release signed by the current National President of the UCCC, Augustin Tamba, Mayor of Yaoude VII, we are told the deceased, through his hard work and determination played an important role in fast tracking the process of decentralization in Cameroon.
Prof Lazare Kaptue was last seen in public Saturday March 20, at the funeral of Dr Jonas Kouamou, former Mayor of Bagangte and Dean of the Faculty of Medecine at Université des Montagnes.
He joins the rang of the many personalities in Cameroon who quit the scene in recent weeks.
