The second phase of the recruitment exercise of PhD holders into State Universities in Cameroon has been scheduled for the 16th of January, 2020, reports have said.

The information was disclosed yesterday in Yaounde by the Minister of State, Minister of Higher education, Prof Jacques Fame Ndongo who chaired a meeting of the technical committee for the recruitment of 2000 PhD holders ordered by the President of the Republic.

In a press release issued at the end of the meeting which aimed at clarifying the first recruitment phase reportedly marred by irregularities, it is stated that a meeting will soon hold in view of launching the second phase of the recruitment exercise to take in 500 lecturers.

Apart from that, the Minister authorises the different Rectors to replace where necessary lecturers who have died, have resigned, have abandoned their duty posts or have been dismissed with PhD holders older than 45years provided they meet the conditions required.

According to many, this move is in a bit to calm down the tensions on the side of the protesting 200 PhD lecturers who have since the publication of the first list organised a sit-down strike at the Ministry of Higher education, denouncing some recruitment irregularities and thus demanding the publication of another list that would include their names.
