The death has been announced of the former Director General of the Cameroon Radio Television, CRTV, and former Minister Delegate to the Minister of Communication, Prof Gervais Mendo Ze.
According to reports, the founder of the Choir La Voix du Cenacle died this Friday April 9 in Yaounde after suffering from a prolonged illness.
Prof Mendo Ze was recently released from the Kondengui Prison in Yaounde where he was serving a sentence for embezzlement while at the head of the State owned media, CRTV among others to receive proper medical attention.
Born on the 25th of December 1944 in Nkongmekak, Gervais Mendo Ze was an Associate professor of French linguistics and stylistics.
He joined the teaching staff of the Faculty of Arts in Yaounde in 1974 when he was not up to 30 years old.
He served as CRTV’s Director General from 1988 to 2005 and from 2004 to 2007, he was Minister Delegate to the Minister of Communication.
Arrested in November 2014 after he was sacked from the cabinet as Minister Delegate to the Minister of Communication, the late Prof was prosecuted for several issues which included fraudulent transport allowances amounting to 39 million FCFA and television tax money.
Justice equally reproached him for misappropriation of FCFA 360 million, constituting part of his running cost of the State owned media, CRTV.
