After close to two years at home, the President of the Republic, Paul Biya left Yaounde Sunday July 11 accompanied by the First Lady Chantal Biya for a ‘brief private stay’ in Europe.

President Paul Biya and the wife left the Nsimalen International Airport Sunday morning after he granted separate audiences to the Prime Minister Head of Government, the Minister of State, Secretary General at the Presidency of the Republic and to the Minister Director of the Civil Cabinet.

Nothing filtered about the exact country where the Presidential couple left to.

This journey comes close to two years after President Biya’s last official visit out of the country in November 2019- He had gone to Lyon in France to take part in the summit on tuberculosis.

If this journey came as a surprise to many with regards to the last time the 88-year-old President traveled out of the country, it is even more surprising given that he left for Europe, a continent that is currently grappling with the new Delta variant of the COVID-19 pandemic which health experts say is more deadly than others.
