A call for entries has been launched for stories that portray realism and highlight fantasy, science fiction, magic realism, romance, epic, political allegory and satire

It is within this framework that Prof Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, the Minister of Arts and Culture, recently launched the second edition of the National Creative Writing Contest for Young Authors. According to a press release singed by the arts and culture miniister, the contestants shall present a short story or poem on the theme, “Cultural heritage and the development of Cameroon”.

The release equally states that the contest is open to young Cameroonians of both sexes living in and out the country, aged at 35 years old or younger.  Going by the release, the deadline for receiving entries is April 30, 2017. This year’s competition celebrates emerging writers from Cameroon by giving them the opportunity to submit stories which portray realism while highlighting fantasy, science fiction, magic realism, romance, epic, political allegory and satire.

The release says registration guidelines for the contest can be obtained from regional and divisional delegations of the Ministry of Arts and Culture. Many observers are of the pinion that such creative contests will greatly  promote the creation of more literary works among youth as well as boost the volume and quality of Cameroon’s literature in general. Submissions can be done in one of the two official languages; English or French.

The context is one a handful of initiatives undertaken to promot literature in the country.
