The 2018 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) released Tuesday by Transparency International reveals that the continued failure of most countries like Cameroon, to significantly control corruption, is contributing to a crisis of democracy around the world.

According to the TI Corruption Perception Index, Cameroon is among the most corrupt countries in West and Central Africa surpassing Ghana and Nigeria, all put together.

In the Transparency International Corruption Perception Index, Somalia is ranked as the most corrupt country in the world and inside Africa.

The index, which ranks 180 countries and territories by their perceived levels of public sector corruption according to experts and business people, uses a scale of 0 to 100, where 0 is highly corrupt and 100 is very clean. More than two-thirds of countries score below 50 on this year’s CPI, with an average score of just 43.

It should be noted that no country has ever gotten a perfect score of 100 but since 2012 only 20 countries improve their scores while 16 countries decrease.

In this report, Nigeria improved as it moved to 144th from 148th in Transparency International latest corruption perception index worldwide
