The Head of State Paul Biya will compensate persons whose properties were burnt down on Wednesday allegedly by soldiers in Mankon, North West region of Cameroon.

The information was revealed by the Governor of the North West region Adolphe Lele LAfrique who visited the Alachu neighbourhood to estimate the damage caused after intense fighting between soldiers and separatist fighters on Wednesday.

The Governor extended the Head of State’s sympathy to the local population and urged them to remain calm and trust the defence and security forces to put order in the area.

Several houses were burnt in the neighbourhood on Wednesday as soldiers embarked on a crackdown in the area following the killing of two of theirs.

Locals have accused soldiers of carrying out the burnings while the Minister of Defense Joseph Beti Assomo in a communiqué said those found guilty of the burnings will face the law.
