The Head of State Paul Biya has ordered for the recruitment of 2000 PhD holders as lecturers into state universities, according to a release signed by the Secretary General of the Presidency Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh.
The communiqué that was signed and made public on Tuesday November 13 stipulates that the recruitment is opened to graduates resident in Cameroon and abroad and will be conducted for a period of threee years.
The exercise will begin in the 2019 financial year with the recruitment of 1000 lecturers then 500 in 2020 and the remaining 500 in 2021.
“The decision from the Head of State seeks to provide a concrete solution to the pressing need for teaching staff i State Universities, especially following the creation in recent years of several new institutions,” Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh said in a communiqué.
Specific directives have been issued to the Prime Minister, Head of Government and the Minister of Higher Education on the principles, terms and conditions governing the implementation of the decision, the Secretary General at the Prresidency said.
The decision comes just ddays after a group of PhD holders staged a protest last week infront of the Ministry of Higher Education to demand their recruitment into State Universities.
