The Head of State Paul Biya has signed a decree ordering the commutation and remission of some prison sentences.

The decree signed on Wednesday, April 15 states that those who have been sentenced to death have their punishment reduced to a life sentene.

Those who have been sentenced for life have seen their punishment reduced to 25 years while and remissions were equally made.

The decision by Paul Biya means more prisoners will be released from jails in the days ahead as calls had intensified for the release of prisoners due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus.
