More than 20 shops at the Mendong Market in Cameroon’s Centre region were on Wednesday morning reduced to aches, sources have confirmed.

Reports say the fire broke out early Wednesday October 2, 2019 in one of the shops from where it spread across other shops not too far from each other.

This led to the complete destruction of over 20 shops. Informed of the situation that happened before the eyes of some traders, elements of the fire Fighting Brigade arrived at the scene and with the help of some other traders stopped the flames from progressing.

The exact cause of the incident is still to be established, though many say it could be due to poor connections that led to an electrical circuit.

The material damage caused is said to be huge as many traders are still counting their losses. Investigations have been opened to make light on the incident.
