Cameroon’s Minister of Basic Education, Youssouf Adjidja Alim, has launched a cholera prevention campaign in schools in the Northern region.

The campaign dubbed “My School Without Cholera” aims at completely eradicating the epidemic in Cameroonian schools.  The project which is in its second phase was officially launched in the city of Garoua,  by the Minister of Basic Education in the presence of administrative and traditional authorities, students and Heads of Institutions
of the four divisions of the Region, as well as representatives of WHO and UNICEF.

During the official ceremony, Minister Youssouf Adjidja Alim recalled the importance of the campaign, insisting that it is aimed at encouraging healthy behaviors in children, such as regular hand washing with running water and soap before meals and after use of the bath room. All this in the bid to prevent disease.

To materialize the vision, school authorities in the region, received important donations of hygiene and sanitation equipment from both the ministry and technical partners like WHO.
