Cameroon law makers under the Network of Parliamentarians for Tobacco Control, have deliberated on some tobacco control strategies in the country.

The law makers met on Wednesday July 5 during a high level advocacy workshop.

Opening the deliberations, Hon. Emilia Lifaka, the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, urged the MPs to come up with fruitful recommendations that could help bring a draft tobacco control bill.

Discussions at the seminar focused on the different types and components of tobacco products and their dangers to humans, as well as activities carried out by the civil society to push for better tobacco control policies in the country.

In the end, the law makers resolved to prioritise tobacco control in the country, prohibit smoking in public places, raise awareness on the harmful effects of tobacco, adopt a policy of establishing a license to market tobacco products amongst others.
