Some streets and markets in Yaounde, Centre region and Douala, Littoral region of Cameroon have remained empty though heavily militarised since morning following a call to a nationwide protest by the leaders of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement party, CRM to oust the President of the Republic, Paul Biya.

The fear brought about by the planned nationwide protest of the CRM announced for this Tuesday September 22, plus Government’s vow to maintain law and order by all means has kept a good number of Cameroonians in their houses.

According to a Douala based radio, equinoxe, streets of some neighbourhood in the economic capital of Cameroon known for their crowded nature including Akwa, Ndokoti, rond point Dakar are almost empty with only few people pictured.

The situation is not very different from that at the poste central neighbourhood in Yaounde, political capital.

The usual noise is not perceived, with most roadside vendors absent. What draws our attention is the heavy presence of forces of law and order with some proceeding with systematic checks.

According to the programme published by the CRM party, the demonstrations are slated to begin at 10am.

The Government of Cameroon has in several outings warned the party and any other person who will join this initiative which according to them is aimed at destabilizing republican institutions todissociate from such or face the law.
