The case against the detained leeader of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement Maurice Kamto and his allies opens today at the Yaounde Military tribunal.

The case opens almost eight months after they were arrested and detained following the January 26 protests in some towns in Cameroon and in the diaspora.

They are charged with hostility against the fatherland, insurrection, illegal political grouping amongst others and risk a death sentence if found guilty, according to their lawyers.

Ahead of today’s hearing, Kamto’s French lawyers continue to insist judging their clients in a military court is a violation of thir human rights and has called on Cameroon to respect internation conventions which it has signed.
