World football governing body, FIFA and the Confederation of African Football Caf, will open an investigation into the conduct of Cameroonian players during Sunday’s round of 16 clash against England at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.

Cameroon who lost the game three nil protested several refereeing decisions including two VAR calls that went against them, prompting harsh words from England manager Phil Neville.

Augustine Ejangue appeared to have spat on the arm of Toni Duggan while Alexandra Takounda Engolo was shown a yellow card in the dying minutes of the game for a foul Neville thinks should have been a sending off.

As part of its routine reviews, FIFA’s disciplinary body is likely to look at the incidents while the head of the women’s football committee at Caf, Isha Johansen confirmed an inquiry will be opened.

“Whilst remaining proud of our African teams that participated in the FIFA Women’s World Cup, yesterday’s match between England and Cameroon reflected badly, not only on African women’s football but African football on the whole,”  Johansen said.

“”It is an issue which will be addressed and dealt with at the appropriate levels of governance,”she added.
