Dr. Toupta Boguena, the Executive Secretary of the Niger Basin has called on the government of Cameroon to help develop the basin resources.
Speaking shortly after an audience with Hilarion Etong, Cameroon’s Senior Vice President at the National Assembly, Dr. Toupta Boguena said the authority is relying on Cameroon’s support to effectively manage cross water border resources in the basin.
She regretted the fact that insecurity has hampered the execution of programs in the Basin.
She emphasised the need for member state to develop an institutional framework for the utilization and development of the Niger Basin resources.
The Congo Basin official equally use the forum to update government on ongoing activities and the forth coming projects to be organised by the Niger Basin Authority. One important encounter, she went on, is a conference to take place in Bamako in October 2017. The encounter shall be organised to enable government officials brainstorm on the management of water resources in the Niger Basin.
The Niger Basin Authority is an intergovernmental Organisation in West Africa which aims at fostering co-operation in managing and developing the resources of the basin of the river Niger. Madame Boguena who is Executive Secretary of the Niger Basin since January 2016 has been working to foster the objectives of the organisation.
