A huge consignment of counterfeit drugs worth FCFA 80 million has been destroyed in Bertoua, in the Lom and Djerem Division, East region of Cameroon.

The drugs including injections, solutions and other locally made tablets were burnt down recently in the presence of the Governor of the region who doubles as regional president of the fight against illicit drugs, Gregoire Mvongo.

According to reports, the drugs were seized in the process of being sold in the local market and others were taken while on transit to the Northern part of the country and other neighbouring countries.

For years now, Cameroonian authorities have been battling against the importation and sale of counterfeit drugs in the counntry.
