Four elements of the Defence Forces are said to have died and many others injured after an attack by suspected separatist fighters at the Menfoung military post in Galim, a locality in the Bamboutos Division, West region of Cameroon last night.

According to reports, a good number of separatist fighters were equally neutralized when security forces launched a counterattack.

After visiting the wounded soldiers at the Bafoussam Regional Hospital this Friday April 30, West Governor Awa Fonka Augustine urged the fighters to drop their weapons and embrace the Government’s peace and reconciliatory move.

In this same light, the Senior Divisional Officer for the Bamboutos, Francois Franklin Etapa has held an emergency meeting at his office in Galim to take necessary measures following last night’s attack at the Menfoung military post.

The locality of Menfoung is border to the restive North West region via Ngo-ketundji, where the fighters are believed to have come from to carry out the attack.

This is not the first time the West, border region to Cameroon’s restive Anglophone regions witnesses attacks from suspected separatist fighters operating in the regions since 2016.
