The Cameroon Professional Football League on Thursday announced the indefinite suspension of the football season in the country due to financial reasons.

The decision came after a meeting of stakeholders which was also attended by the Syndicate of Elite Football Clubs in Cameroon, SYCEC.

The decision immediately affects matchday 30 fixtures of the MTN Elite I and matchday 25 fixtures of the MTN Elite II initially scheduled to take place this weekend.

For the past three seasons, the Cameroon professional Football League LFPC has been receiving 560 millions FCFA as subvention from the state to pay the salaries of players and coaches while 360 Fcfa as operational budget.

In April, the main sponsor of the championship and partner of the LFPC, MTN Cameroon it will review it financial package to the league beginning next football season from 610 à 210 millions FCFA.

MTN also announce it will be terminating its partnership with the league at the end of the 2018-2019 football season after investing a total of 1,430 billion FCFA into the championship and  7 billion FCFA into the organisation and running of of national championship between 2002 and 2013.
