The Fon of Oku, Bui Division of the North West Region has been reportedly kidnapped by armed men from his palace and taken to an unknown destination, sources have confirmed.
His Majesty, Sentieh II Martin Yosimbom, was kidnapped on Wednesday as he left his palace to secure the release of his driver who was reportedly in captivity.
However, reasons for his abduction still remain unclear though some sources point to the fact that he has been a target of separatist fighters in the area who accuse him of conniving with security forces to fish them out.
Other sources claim, he was abducted in connection to his alleged role in the expropriation of his subjects’ land. It is not clear if his abductors are demanding a ransom for the moment as no official statement has been made with regards to the incident.
Traditional rulers have been the target of separatist fighters in recent months both in the North West and South West Region. Last month, seven Fako chiefs were released after spending weeks in captivity where one of their colleagues died.
