The Foumban Gendarmerie Company has opened investigations on five suspected highway robbers who were arrested last week.

They were arrested after an attack along the Manjoum-Mashushi road in the Nounc Division by elements of the Malantouen Gendarmerie Brigade who were acting based on information from victims.

On 05 April 2021, at about 04 p.m., three of the suspected highway robbers, aged respectively 22, 24 and 26, were arrested in the home of one of the gang members. Eleven mobile phones and 05 machetes were equally found and seized during the operation.

The fourth suspect, aged 22, was arrested the same day in Nkoutoukwat, a neighbourhood in Malantouen, around 09 p.m.

The 5th alleged highway robber, aged 19, was arrested the following day around 11 a.m. in Manguimbou.

Their subsequent questioning led to the seizure of the 03 handmade weapons and 07 ammunitions of calibre 12 they had used to commit their crime. Two members are still on the run as investigations continue to track them down.
