Ebenezer Ngea Essoka is the new President of the Board of Directors of the United Bank for Africa, UBA Cameroon.
He was appointed during a Board meeting of the bank that held last April 7 in Yaounde.
He replaces Nfon Mukete IV Ekoko, newly crowned Paramount ruler of the Bafaws who served in that capacity for 13 years.
Information about Ebeneser Essoka’s appointment to UBA Cameroon top job was made known to shareholders Wednesday April 28 during the bank’s 13th General Assembly that took place in Douala.
This General Assembly session which was presided at by Nfon Mukete IV Ekoko for the last time was the occasion for the new Board Chair to officially take office.
Ebenezer Essoka is a banker and business leader who has years of experience in banking services.
He retired from Standard Chartered Bank as Vice Chairman, Africa in 2015 after more than 30 years in senior leadership.
Prior to this, he was CEO South Africa and Southern Africa from 2008 to 2013 and CEO Central and West Africa from 2004 to 2008.
The new UBA Cameroon Board Chair holds an MBA in Finance and a Diploma in International Business. He has attended senior executive development programs at INSEAD, London Business School, Templeton College, Oxford University and Cambridge University.
He was the first African to be appointed CEO of an SCB subsidiary after over 135 years of the Group’s presence in Africa. He successfully managed several subsidiaries in Southern, East, Central, and West Africa.
Ebenezer Essoka has broad experiences ranging from the establishment of greenfield operations to restructuring and repositioning mature businesses across Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
