The Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge f Defence Joseph Beti Assomo has stated criminals, assasins and terrorists are not part of the 289 persons to be freed following instructions from the Head of State.

On Thursday December 13, Paul Biya ordered for the discontinuance of 289 cases pending before military tribunals against persons arrested in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon.

Defence Minister Josuph Beti Assomo who is charged with implementing the decision says the decision concerns only persons whose cases have been deeply examined before military tribunals with no severe charges hanging on their heads.

He stressed that “criminals, assassins and other dangerous terrorists as well as brains behind the security crisis in the North West and South West regions ” are not concerned with the measures.

“Justice will continue to take its course on them,” Beti Assomo said.

Thus 16 persons would be freed from the Bafoussam Central prison, 49 from the Bamenda Central Prison, 99 from the Buea Central Prison, 14 from the Douala Central Prison, 85 from Kondengui, 33 from the Gendarmerie headquarters and two from the judicial police in Yaounde, the Minister said in a communiqué.
