The Cameroon Association of English-speaking Journalists, CAMASEJ and the Cameroon Journalists Trade Union, SNJC have given the Government of Cameroon till 6pm this Thursday June 4 to create a commission of inquiry to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the death of their colleague, Samuel Wazizi who had been detained incommunicado since his arrest in August 2019.

In a joint statement released Wednesday June 3, CAMASEJ and SNJC strongly condemns the killing of Samuel Wazizi and announce the creation of a COLLECTIVE FOR JUSTICE on his death.

The collective has denounced the “revenge-seeking behaviour of authorities and the army on the journalist and given the former until 6pm this Thursday to enlighten Wazizi’s family, colleagues and the general public on the exact date of his death, the place where the corpse is presently kept as well as the circumstances of his demise.

The collective has announced further actions should Government fail to respond to the 6pm deadline.

It has equally urged journalists and communication professionals to act and condemn the act of murder on their colleague which is “one too many and remain mobilised in case any action should be taken.

Samuel Wazizi was arrested in Buea in August 2019 and detained at the Buea police station, from where he was reportedly taken to an unknown destination after which he finally succumbed to torture under police custody.
