A breastfeeding mother and her baby reportedly died at the weekend of stray bullets in Bambui, North West region of Cameroon, sources have said.

Sources say during a power outage on Saturday night, shots were fired indiscriminately before residents discovered a breastfeeding mother and her baby had been caught in the house.

The pair died on the spot as it remain difficult to determine if they were killed by soldiers or separatist fighters.

However, residentssaid soldiers always fire indiscriminately to scare away armed separatist fighters in the locality and that could have been the case.
