Elements of the 6th unit Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR) have re-constructed three bridges linking the Kesham village, a locality in the Akwaya subdivision, Manyu Division in the South West region of Cameroon from Mamfe Central.
The bridges were handed over to the population during a ceremony organized by the BIR on April 6.
Reports from the region say the said bridges were burnt down by separatist fighters few weeks ago.
Lieutenant Colonel Cedric Louise Zambo, Assistant Commander of the 6th unit of BIR, led the operation that resulted in the reconstruction of these bridges.
According to him, this quick action is a result of fruitful collaboration that between the population of Manyu and the military.
Commander Louise Zambo called on the population to report any suspected attempt to destroy back the bridges.
Present at this handing over ceremony was the Divisional Officer for Akwaya subdivision, Augustine Eweh Mbua who hailed the action indicating it come to restore movements of people and goods.
He advised the people to create a vigilante group to better help protect their community.
The Paramount ruler of Akwaya, Mofow Odekpo Akpana equally present at the ceremony did not hide his feelings.
He and the population of Akwaya expressed their gratitude to the military for the timely intervention.
