The chief of the Batanga (people of Kribi belonging to the big group Sawa of Cameroon), Marcel Mahouve III, died immediately after his vehicle collided with a Toyota brand car. The scene took place Wednesday not far from the village Boumnyebel, on the axis connecting Douala to Yaoundé, while returning from Kribi where he had celebrated the new year. He was with his wife, a teacher, who also died on the spot.

His majesty Marcel Mahouve III, 61 years, was magistrate. He was employed at the Ministry of Justice where he held the position of Director. He was inducted as traditional ruler in 2004 after the death of his predecessor Marcel Mahouve II.
