The Cameroon Bar Association has in strong terms condemned the brutality meted out on some of its members at the weekend during the waves of protests witnessed in some towns at the weekend.

Pictures emerged of firebrand lawyer Michelle Ndoki in the hospital after she confirmed to have received four bullets in the thigh while peacefully protesting.

Other protesters were seriously injurred while over 100 were arrested and detained by security forces who have since been accused of using excessive force in quenching the crisis.

Amongst those reportedly arrested are lawyers Emmanuel Simh, Andre Marie Tassa and Alphonse Ngaliembou.

“The President of the Cameroon Bar Association condemns the use of excessive force on civilians,” the Bar President Barrister Tchakounte Patie said while calling on authorities to free all the lawyers arrested.

The Bar President also used the opportunity to call on authorities to protect lawyers in the face of the growing insecurity in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon.
