An operation to disinfect Bamenda and keep it safe from the Coronavirus started this morning in the major parts of the town, sources have confirmed.

The disinfection operation falls in line with activities that have been taking place in the past days in Bamenda to sensitise the population on the prevention of the COVID-19.

Thus, a huge clean up campaign took place in the city yesterday, led the waste disposal company HYSACAM assisted by other stakeholders and volunteers before the disinfection proper on Friday.

Shop owners, traders, businessmen as well as transporters have all stayed home todays in order to enable the disinfection team properly carry out their work in the city. Major parts of the town have been disinfected by teams from the City Council,

The City Mayor has called on all to join hands together in order to make this operation a success either by contributing materially or financially.

Yesterday, the City Mayor led a team to the various corners of the town to sensitise the population on the best practices to adopt during this period to avoid the spread of the COVID-19.

A sensitization campaign that came just a day after the Governor of the region Adolphe Lele LAfrique equally went to strategic parts of the town to sensitise the population.

Returning from Yaounde where he just attended a strategic meeting with government ministers, on reinforcing measures to fight the COVID-19, the governor made a stop at Matazem, Santa Sub division to ensure all passengers entering the region have their temperatures taken.

It was also an opportunity for him to check if transporters were respecting measures put in place by the Minister of Transport in order to limit over loading and effectively implement the social distancing measure. He equally made a stopover at the Nkwen market where he sensitized the traders to respect the basic hygiene measures and avoid spreading their items on the floor.
