The Archbishop of Bamenda, His Lordship Cornelius Fontem Esua has been released after spending a night in captivity in the restive North West region of Cameroon, sources have said.

The Archbishop was ‘kidnapped’ alongside his driver on Tuesday June 25 around Njinikejem in Boyo Division of the North West region after armed separatists blocked the road, a source said.

All attempts to release him yesterday were futile but he was only set free in the early hours of Wednesday as he headed to Bamenda.

The Bamenda Metropolitan Archdiocese is yet to comment on the events.

Last week, the convoy of Bishop of Kumbo, His Lorship George Nkuo was held for hours along the road as the prelate was heading to Njinikom for an ordination.
