The leader of the Now Movement Akere Tabeng Muna has been slammed a three-year suspended jail term by a court in Cameroon’s capital Yaounde for concealment of procedure in the case against his sister Ama Tutu Muna.

The Yaounde Court of First Instance also found him guilty of forgery and use of false documents but however acquitted him of false statements.

The court thus slammed Akere Muna a three-year suspended jail term for five years and one million francs CFA fine. He was also ordered to pay 511,000 CFA francs as procedure costs and 10,000,000 CFA in damages.

A spokesperson for Akere Muna told journalducameroun.com that they are disappointed with the verdict and see this as a manipulation of the judicial system in Cameroon in favour of the system in  place.

Akere Muna who was in the running for the October 7 Presidential election before withdrawing to throw his support behind Maurice Kamto has been in a legal battle with his sister and former Minister of Arts and Culture Ama Tutu Muna over their late father’s inheritance.

Ama Tutu Muna had dragged here brother to court accusing him of firging her signature on the succession documents as well as concealing procedures.
